Choosing your microphone and camera on BigMarker
There are various ways to select or switch your microphone and camera. You can switch on BigMarker, within your browser settings, and within your Operating System. Continue below to see various options. You can also test both here.
When you enter your webinar or meeting space, you can choose or change your microphone, camera, and audio outputs. You can access your devices within the testing pop-up that appears when you enter a webinar room, or by clicking the microphone or camera buttons once you are in the room. From there, you can choose the relevant device from the dropdown menus:
Troubleshooting tips: If you don't see the device listed, it could mean the device is not supported, is not being detected by BigMarker, is not enabled, is being blocked by a browser extension, or hijacked by another application. Try unplugging then re-plugging in your external device, then refreshing your browser, or restarting your computer. You may also need to quit any other video applications or disable any browser extensions that might be blocking your ability to share. Continue below for more options for Browsers and Operating Systems.
Microphone and web camera defaults can be assigned within individual browsers.
There are a few ways to access your mic and camera settings on Chrome. The best way is to copy and paste these links in your web address (URL) area:
Site settings: chrome://settings/content
Within Chrome's settings, you can manage the default mic and camera, while also allowing or blocking specific websites access to your microphone or camera. For webinars, make sure bigmarker.com is under allowed. For a meeting space, please allow meetingspace.io
You can also access these permissions by clicking the privacy icon within the web address/URL area when you're on the webinar or meeting space landing page or within the room:
For Firefox, copy and paste this link about:preferences#privacy, then scroll down to the Permissions section and click Settings. There you can choose which websites to allow access to your microphone and camera. Allow bigmarker.com if you are hosting webinars and meetingspace.io for meeting spaces.
To choose or switch your microphone or camera in Firefox, you'll need to go into your webinar or meeting room. From there, click on the Mic or Camera icon that's just to the left of your URL address, and choose your microphone and camera from the dropdown menu.
For Safari, click Safari in the top left-hand corner. Then click Settings for This Website... Under camera and microphone choose Allow.
You can also click Safari, then click Preferences. Under Websites, click Camera. Under Currently Open Websites, make sure bigmarker.com is Allowed. Follow the same steps for the Microphone. If you are using a meeting space, go to your meeting space landing page and follow the same steps and allow meetingspace.io
To choose or switch your microphone or camera in Safari, you'll need to go into your webinar or meeting room. From there, click on the Camera icon that's just to the right of your URL address, and choose your microphone and camera from the dropdown menu.
For Microsoft Edge, you will still need to give individual websites permission before BigMarker can use your camera and microphone. Similar to other browsers you will see a dropdown menu, select Allow once or Always allow.
You can also select Settings from Edge's dropdown. Then under Advanced settings, select View advanced settings. Under Website permissions, select Manage. Select the website you want to manage: bigmarker.com and meetingspace.io.
Click on the website listed, and make sure both Microphone and Webcam permissions are switched to On.
In Opera, type "settings" into your URL bar. Then, click on Websites in the left-hand menu list. Then scroll down to the Microphone and Camera area, and use the dropdown menus to select the default devices. You can also adjust your permissions preferences and set up Exceptions.
Internet Explorer (IE) (We do not recommend hosting a webinar on IE)
First and foremost, Internet Explorer will work within a webinar only if webcast mode is enabled. Internet Explorer will not work in the MeetingSpace.
Unless you have no other option, we would recommend using a different browser. Microsoft is not updating or supporting IE any longer. As a result, it is unstable and out-of-date, which may cause stability and usability issues that we cannot resolve or troubleshoot. Furthermore, you cannot switch your camera or mic on IE itself. You'll need to adjust your devices through your computer's device settings. See Windows Operating System below. As a result, we discourage presenters from using IE to host a webinar.
On older MacOS, there are not system-level controls for webcams, and instead, MacOS will default to the settings on the application (BigMarker) or browser level. However, if your mic selection isn't saving, there is a system-level control of your mic. You can access this by clicking on the Apple in the top left corner of the screen and selecting System Preferences. From here, click on Sound and then select the Input tab. This area will list all input devices that are available, and you can set the default as necessary. Unlike the microphone settings, there isn't a specific area to choose or change your default camera.
If you are using Mojave (10.14) and above, Mac has added system-level privacy settings and permissions. So If you’re having an issue getting your camera or microphone working after upgrading to Mojave, it could be related to some of the new security and privacy features. One of the updated privacy features requires applications to request permission to access your camera or microphone.
- Click on the Apple Menu
- Go to System Preferences
- Go to the Security & Privacy section
- In the left column, you’ll find a section for Camera and Microphone
Click on the device you need to allow permissions to
- In the right column, find the app that isn’t working and check the box next to it to allow it
- You may need to restart the app to allow the changes
From the Windows Settings page, choose System. Within System, You can click on Sound or Search for Microphone or Camera. Within these settings, you can adjust both the default devices and privacy settings. Type in the search area or click Sound, Microphone, or Camera.
Microphone settings and permissionsYou can adjust your microphone settings within Sound. You can adjust privacy settings within microphone privacy settings; Microphone.
Camera settings and permissions
Similar to microphone settings, you can search Cam or Camera, then choose Camera or Camera privacy settings. Unlike the microphone settings, there isn't a specific area to choose a or change your default camera.
